Just popping in to the forums to say 'hello'.
If you have any advice concerning my portfolio/profile, I'd be interested to hear it. We never get to the point where the opinions of others don't count and we are all learning at all times. I've got a long way to go with my learning and am by no means anywhere near as good as some of the people on here. It would be good to hear where I'm going wrong though.
Any of my images not working for you? Anything in my bio that's particularly irksome?
Hope to meet and work with many of you sometime soon!!
Best wishes, always...
Daniel

Shame you had nothing to comment on in relation to my photographs and chose rather to comment on my comments. Still, that's your choice.
In regard to what you did choose to comment on (my comment on the other thread); I saw someone being unfairly critiqued and decided to give that person some encouragement.
As I commented on the other thread, if one is happy with their work, why care what others think? That doesn't mean to say that one isn't curious what others think though. Note the difference?
Would you care to comment on any my portfolio/bio now?
Best wishes to you and thank you for commenting on the thread anyway.

Indeed!
Ref your port, some nicely composed images in the main however the rose petals shot lets is down,as your model looks awkward and that concept is done to death!

I put a comment on the rose petal image speaking of the tongue in cheek decision to post such a cliched image with rose petals. You obviously didn't see the comment but did see the image so 1 for spotting the only tongue in cheek image in there.
For what it's worth (I think I could probably shorten that to IMHO), I appreciate someone who is straight forward and to the point. If we are never challenged, as in your first post on this thread, life would be pretty dull, huh?
Best wishes, always...

Just had a look daniel,
I really like 73744, nice control of lighting, and sharp. 73748 a nice simple shot, might of liked a little bit of cloud in the sky though
73743,73747 and 73750 all appear a bit grainy, this may be becasue they are the wrong size foir the web browser, or as i noted in your notes, you scan alot of imnages into the computer.
The only one thats sticking out as painfull to MY eyes (not everyones though) is 73751, something is not quite right about it, pose, clothing, as i say, it dosent sit right with me.
Hope that helps in some way.
All the best here

Thank you for your comments, Keiran. Clear. concise and to the point.
The grain is likely because of the incredibly small file sizes. I've got 2mb of space for my £20 a year and I'm too cheap to pay any more right now until I've learned whether I'm likely to get bookings from using this site. In order to get the 12 images in there I had to make each file size absolutely minute. Good point on the grain though. It's always nice to know how they're appearing on other peoples screens.
The one that 'doesn't sit right' with you. I'd be interested to hear a little more on what it is that isn't working. It's a fair comment and I do take the comment on board and thank you for it also.
The Art Nude/Figure Study that you liked so much was a real experience. Rebecca was an absolute star and a pleasure to work with and I think the connection and level of trust really helped us to capture that particular shot.
Again, thank you very much for your comments on my photographs.
Best wishes, always...

You say you've got a long way to go and that you're still learning, but in your port you say you're an advanced photographer and soon to embark on teacher training. Also that you're doing TF for a 'limited time'. If you feel you have a long way to go, why are you at the point of only charging and are not going to pay for models? Just didn't understand that bit.
Looking at your port, I like the nude shot, the one where the girl looks like alice in wonderland and the woman with roses. I'm not particular about the 'sexy secretary' shot, I personally find that look cheesy, it looks fake and you're drawn to the woman's wonky teeth! Don't mean to offend, that's just what I think when I look at it.

I liked the sexy secretary shot best out of all of them. This theme always interested me and I've done a couple myself. On the picture of the girl sitting by the reeds have you done something with the colour? I can't put my finger on what it is as it may be my monitor but the greens look over saturated. I also love the black and white shot of the girl in the black pvc trousers. I also like Cavygirls avatar picture but I know that's nothing to do with you.

No, offence taken at all, Cavy. I asked for tips, pointers and comments and your post certainly falls into those categories The point of doing anything creative is that we are all always learning, no matter what level we're at. To believe that one has reached the pinacle of all knowledge in any field negates an advancement in that area. Who, if they know it all, is open to developing further? Now, I am not saying I HAVE reached the pinacle of anything and especially not photography, but that is the point I was making. We are all learning, from the first time photographer to the worlds highest ranking photographers.
Your comment on the models teeth being wonky was a little harsh and I am not sure that the model would like to hear that (although I'm not even sure she is a member here so not much danger there), but saying it isn't your favourite is completely within your rights to do so. The poster following your comment added that it was his favourite image, so things have a way of balancing out and it's that age old adage: One man's meat is another man's poison.
I want to thank you for taking the time to comment on my profile. It wasn't something you had to do and you took time away from doing something else to do so. I do appreciate your time and opinion.
As the poster below me pointed out, I too like your avatar image. Not sure what you're holding though. Is it a lynx?
Best wishes, always and thanks again for taking the time to comment.

Hi, Arriflex.
Thank you for commenting on the images in my portfolio. Always appreciated.
I did enjoy the shoot and the concept of shooting a 'sexy secretary' was a fun one to undertake.
The image of the fairy and the green grass has had the colours enhanced significantly. Do not adjust your monitor, this is a fantasy genre. In order to keep in with the theme of fairies and the genre of fantasy (sorry to tell you this but fairies are not real...except for Tinkerbell) I decided that there should be an element of surrealism or the 'not real'. Enhancing the colours and making them 'other-worldly' seemed to fit into this concept.
I loved shooting with Emily on that shoot that has the pvc trousers you spoke about. She was so awesome to work with and, can you believe, this was her first photoshoot?! What an absolute star she was and is!!
Again, thank you for your comments, Arriflex. It's always appreciated when someone takes the time out of their day to do so.
Best wishes, always...
Daniel

I just figured out what it is you're holding in your avatar image. It's a rabbit!!
Sorry, I'm used to seeing them in a pie with a lot less fur than that.
I'm only half joking of course. You'd never get a whole rabbit in a pie!!
Best wishes, always...

What do you mean fairies don't exist? I'm still putting my old teeth under my pillow and they still change into £1 coins by the morning. It certainly ain't my Dad doing it cos he's passed into another dimension.

Hello and welcome to NP. If you found my critique of Katieanne unfair you probably wont agree with anything I've got to say about your own portfolio. But heres my 2 cents worth
Your main pic is the strongest in my opinion, the studio work is weak, mainly because your lighting isnt very good. Personally I think that 'advanced' is pushing it a fair bit - but its only a label, just means that you will be critiqued harder.
As said above your composition is pretty good, outside of the studio with natural light you seem to do better.
As an advanced photographer I'd rate you a 3

Perhaps it's Tinkerbell her very self then, Arriflex!! She is a very busy lady by the sounds of things.
Thank you for the 'giggle'.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on my portfolio, Gary. I'm always grateful when someone takes the time out of their day to do so.
You haven't in any way asked for a critique so I am going to word this reply very carefully so as not to break any site rules. In other words, I am not going to talk about your photographs.
You seem to have gotten a bee in your bonnet and assumed that I was referring to your comment on the afore mentioned thread in the critique section. This assumption was made even though there were comments before yours. I can only deduce that you're not used to people disagreeing with you and that you post here in this manner because of said bee in bonnet. I could be totally wrong though.
As I said in the thread that you mentioned, take the opinions of those that you think have an authority to speak on such matters. You may take what you like from that last statement but I am not too concerned regarding your comments.
I could say much more but, out of respect for the site, for you as a fellow photographer and for those who will read this thread after my post, I will leave this here but for one last quote and comment:
'As an advanced photographer I'd rate you a 3'...
An opinion is like a lower body orifice. Everyone has one and not everyone is going to like yours.
Best wishes, always...
Daniel

Having reviewed the site explanation on selecting one's 'level', and having seen some of the awesome images from others on this site, I have to say that I am infact inclined to agree with Gary on one matter:
My level has been changed from 'Advanced' to 'Intermediate'.
I am not above accepting opinions and changing my own if I see some truth therein. I know!! Me!! Agreeing with somebody!!
Thank you for your comments, Gary.
Best wishes, always...
