Do any models/photographers know the best way to get into catalogue modelling?
I have tried most of the london agencies and not got anywhere.

I live in Kent, so any helpful advice would be appreciated.

Thank you  Member Image

Is it possible he reason you have not got anywhere is because you dont have what is required? Maybe you lack that 'X' factor that most agencies want. Catalogue modling is probably (Im speculating) one of the hardest to get into as it is the nearest to fashion so all the almost nearly girls are queuing up if they havent quite made it into the higher grades of catwalk/fashion?

have you asked them why you have been turned down?

Maybe its time to try another area of modling?

Dunno im just toooooooo fat for that side of the lens anyways

Cheers

P.S - I'm waffling again aren't I

It's a tough area to break into.  You look pretty and have a nice figure but your shots while good are not really showing me that you are "up there".  Try working with someone who uses an MUA and styling a shoot like a catalogue set.  If it does nothing else it would at least give you a set of images to be proud of and evaluate against the competition.

Hey Big Nige!

I have always asked when I have sent my photos to them. But not one has actually given me a reason, even when I've sent an email back asking why, they don't respond.

Thanks for the other response, unfortunately it's not that easy to find make up artists who don't charge and I don't earn money.
But trying to create some catalogue style looks is a good idea!

There are a few MUA's that will do TFP, but as you said it is difficult.  I would recommend that you keep looking.  Possibly even post for one on the forums.  You may be lucky.

I can understand MUA's not doing free shoots, as their kits cost a lot of money (as you will probably know, make-up isn't cheap to buy.  Most MUA's use top quality make-up as well).

Keep looking and best of luck.

To be honest a lot of agencies (basically the big ones which catalogues and brands use) do go by a strict set of rules, age being a large factor.  It's very difficult for any to be interested in anyone over the age of 23 - I'm now 28 - so that's me up sh*t creek too!  lol

Modelling agencies are as a rule VERY choosey, and no, they seem to have better things to do than tell us what's wrong about us.

It is a downer getting turned down, but all you can do is carry on with shoots, TF and/or paid, to keep up with your current look and better poses and keep on sending your shots.  One day, you never know, someone will pick up on you.   Member Image
