i'm new to the modeling scene and need some advise on how much to charge on an hourly or daily bases.
i have a shoot line up for 2 hours topless with 20 mins set aside for an impleied nude set.
as i'm new i dont want to over charge or undercharge?/

I would only consider paying that amount for a very experienced and accomplished model. 

She needs far more and far better images her portfolio to persuade me to consider paying her.  I think she has potential - but £50 an hour?  Not a chance.

If Emma can get away with £50 an hour - good luck to her - but I think she'll find very few takers.  With about 10 -15 shoots under her belt she could try to demad that amount. 

Some of the best models I have worked with (and I mean really good professionals who have been working for quite a few years) usually charge about £30 an hour.

I read it that she thinks about £50 for the job as a whole, but even so I would feel that £25/hour for a complete beginner is way OTT.

However, there are some 'photographers' who have realised that even £50/hour to gawp at a naked female is way better value than £20 for 3 minutes in Spearmint Rhino. 

Not saying that the guy who has booked her is a GWC, but maybe he should tell her what his budget is and she can either decline or accept. Excellent nude models are frequently found for around £100 - 150 1/2 day, personally I'd never pay a beginner - but then I dont shoot nudes either

In a word: Yes.

I would explain you're relatively new to this and have a figure in mind, but could he just confirm his budget/what he'd usually pay a model so that you can agree on a rate that suits both of you.

If you are comfortable shooting at these levels and feel you can fulfill the brief he's given you, then there's no reason why you can't expect about £20-£25 an hour, even as a beginner, as he's obviously asked to work with you and is willing to pay.

£40 to be photographed in the buff by a stranger seems reasonable to me - its his money and its up to him to decide of its good value or not.
Really it has to be your decision as to what its worth. Some girls wouldnt do it for £10K - others will strip off for a malibu and coke.....

I would pay a model that sort of fee but they would have to be more experiance than a beginner, but at the moment I'm only working with TF** and I pay for there travelling cost. I can't be any fairer than that. I get my practice, the model gets experiance and a day out for free along with a CD of all the work done, and if long enough dinner included. If they want due to traveling I can offer an over night stay. And how much does this all cost them nothing!

But she has already been offered paid work so he obviously wants her. if a photographer offers paid work and asks a model THEIR rates then whats the problem.

  That makes perfect sense to me. Standard charges are difficult because there are so many different levels of what your model has to offer, a new fashion model ain't gonna charge the same as Tyra Banks is she? So, work it out between you. For example I do personal tuition and seminars on artistic nude, my regular model for this gets £250 for about 4 actual hours work out of a 7hr day - taking off time for when i'm talking, part of what she can do that makes her so valuable is that she knows how much to do herself and how much to make the client/clients do the work and she progresses during the day, as well as being tolerant and easy to work with, she's done about 20 lot's of personal tuition and 15 seminars to date. She is very popular and always has lots of good feedback, often picking up work from the clients - a valuable girl to me hence the £250, not a figure that i would even consider paying a beginner.

Like everything in life, a product or service is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. There are arguments for and against quoting set rates. Last week I found a location which I fell in love with and, although I rarely do TF work, wanted to shoot there ASAP so placed a TF casting. I've arranged the shoot with the model and on looking at her profile I see she doesn't do TF work. Looking at our profiles we shouldn't be working together!  I think that most people are open to offers if they like what's being offered so never be afraid to negotiate as most things aren't set in stone - they might say no, but...

Before my 1st comment no mention had been made I believe that an offer was on the table, only what to charge if there was?Not a thing I have written was meant to be personal, it’s just that so many newbie’s Mod’s, Tog’s, Mua’s, style-list’s and digital enhancer’s come into the job thinking how much can I make.Very laborious.Why not just treat it as fun and if you earn a bob or two well done.

I thought from the beginning that the O/P had been offered a paid job it was just the amount to charge that she thought was in doubt.
I'd charge £50 for two hours, ignore Wallace he's famously tight, also it is only two hours you'll spend another two at least getting there and back and probably learn very little in the whole process. If you were doing longer then come down in the hourly rate, say £75 for 4 hours but £50 is fine for a two hour burst even for a novice.
I never quite understand the 'you should be doing it for the love of the game' brigade, I have never in all my life felt like taking all my clothes of for others to photograph me badly in my altogether. If I take them off you pay. I fail to see why models should be any different.

I agree with Tony, 'doing it for the love of it' concept does not pay bills.

I always am shocked at anyone who looks at topless or any kind of nude work and offers TFP work, I am even more amazed any models do this on a TFP basis but unfortunately there lies the devil. While the model next to you is prepared to it does devalue all of you.
However as with all charges it comes down to what he is prepared to pay and what price you put on it. Experienced or not in this case is irrelevant, the moment you are getting your clothes off for a nude shoot in my opinion you should charge a premium especially if the photographer is an amateur himself.

So come up with a price you are happy with and add on £10, offer that and if he says it is too much start negotiating within your £10 padding zone so at worst you end on what you wanted anyway....that is just negotiating basics.
