His portraits show soooooooo much character. He seems to really connect with his subjects.

The work of David Penprase has always been an inspiration and one of the reasons I started shooting nudes in black and white. Unfortunately I seem to have been side tracked and continue to turn out mediocre crap. If any models read this and want to be covered in mud a' la David Penprase give me a shout.

I also love Terry Richardson, I love how he isn't afraid to be sleazy. But I did prefer the stuff he did for Vice rather than his new more high fashion stuff. I liked it when he was taking pictures of naked girls at parties better ^^ I also love Steven Miesel. He's AWESOME. I also like Renike Dirjkstra- I dunno if I've spelt that right, I love how by getting people to pose and show how they want to be seen she photographs right to the core of them and isn't afraid to follow the candid trend.

Not a photographer but an image - when I saw this I knew I wanted to record life in various ways.

Sadly for me I remember when this was current news. This is a cropped still from a film the original was a wider shot and closer to the children on the road side are soldiers and civvy photographers wearing military fatigues basically ignoring the plight of these victims. It has the same effect on me now as it did then, how callous we have become when our senses are bombarded on a daily basis that we would rather reload a camera than help a child. We are not yet civilized. Sorry for the morbidity but this image is from my youth and has stayed with me. Your are right of course it is powerful.

Am I allowed to be controversial here and pick up on the word 'photographers', all I am seeing here is ARTWORK/DESIGN. Actual photography is almost missing here these are all 'paintings'.
This isn't a complaint about photoshop or whatever, it's a comment on how far away from a photograph can you go and still call it a photograph?

Tony You know I like controversy!!!
But the particular post you quoted from is 'straight' photography... as are 2 of the other 4. I think I am being fairly even handed!
I'd still love if this thread developed into a useful list of links from all kinds of inspiration from many different genres.
Its an interesting debate though.... another thread coming...
