Hi, does anyone know where I might be able to get a battery powered hand held tube light? To give you an idea of the thing I'm looking for I've seen one in the Alfa Romeo add with Uma Therman.

caravan outlets have these in their spares section ~ 12V models quite cheap too, more expensive with the fitment, hope this helps

One word of warning, there is still high voltage present on the tube itself, even with the 12V caravan ones.  Depending on what you plan to do and what precautions you can take, it's possibly still the cheapest starting point.

It could also be worth checking out inspections lamps, possibly LED or Fluorescent.
