Hi Chris, I asked the same question in a forum on here a while ago with very little response. It seems word of mouth is the best form of advertising. The majority of my work currently comes from recommendations. I must admit family portraiture is my main income. The old methods such as yellow pages i think is dying away as the majority of people now use online search engines which I think is where you need to be. A good website, search engine rankings on the first page is a must. I have tried local papers, flyers & even local spring/summer fairs etc but got very little of the back of these.

Anybody got the answer on here please share!!!!!

Keep up the good work.

Darren

Thanks Darren, Trouble is being in the middle of Cornwall word of mouth takes time. I guess the more successful guys don't want to share their secrets lol

Very true.....what are looking to gain from the advertising? In other words are you wanting model portfolios, family etc?

Hi

I have found magazines a bit hit and miss;
I have an add in yellow pages and I have found this works;
Did advertise in the phone book but this was a total waste of time and did not get any calls from it.

Best Wishes
Alaina

hey depending on what kind of photography you do may depend on which advertising works best but i own a family portrait studio in ipswich and i find the best possible way is data caption, where you go out and get the names and numbers of future clients, we do this by offering the general public a chance to enter a FREE prize draw to win £x amount of free portraits, and the best place by far to do this is in a super market, tesco, asda etc it cost me £1000 to be inside asda's front lobby for 7 days and it generated just under £15,000 worth of business in 2 months. ive tried, papers, radio, magazines, on screens in sport centres etc none of them have worked for me at all, but like i said its down to the clients you are looking for, hope this helps.
