Hi all,
Just looking for clarification.
TFCD..... If for arguments sake I take 100 images, how many of those images would be deemed as a reasonable/fair amount of edited images to give to the model?.
And does this mean that the model can use those images anywhere or do they have to ref/link back to me?.
Kind Regards
P

It can be as many as you both agree on prior to the shoot taking place ,same regarding usage,it would be nice to think the models we work with link the images back or even ask before they send them to be published in Nuts or Zoo but its not always the case, pre shoot communication is the key!!
Hope that helps

The best thing to do is get a model release there are plenty for download online just google, make sure that it has the do's and don'ts on it show it to your model if she is in agreement then both sign it so you both know where you both stand, as for linking back to you, watermark your photographs with your logo, website address, if you have neither with your name and mobile number. Most of all use common sense and show trust.

Morning, I normally work on a 10% ratio of what I shoot is what gets edited, so, 100 images equals 10 edited images. if its a particulary good shoot, then i might go over that limit, and if ive managed to kick the a34e out of it, then i'll limit it to a max of 20 edited images, but as i progress the days of fireing off 400 images in one shoot are starting to dwindle now lol.
as for credits ect, that comes down to communication with the model. a model release form is a good option, and makes it all official, but unless your totally serious about it all, are you really going to chase a model through the courts if they do send their images off to Nuts with out your consent?? just a thought of what a model release form entails.
at the end of the day (it gets dark ) it all boils down to good communication.
best of luck.

I would agree, For TFCD / TFP work when i do a shoot, i normally within the day just drop all the unedited images on the a web share for the model to have a quick look at as they sometimes will pick up ones they specifically like or want, i can them spend a lot more time editing those images. Again with good communication you should have already chatted about what you are looking looking to acheive as an output of the session. As i general rule of thump, for a normal TFP / TFCD shoot this week, i shoot several hundred pics but ill hand over a CD with the top 100 edited, and my top 10 best shots.
I sometimes again depending on communication which is important, I would also noramally put my logo on the bottom of the pic, but this is again something that can be discussed. TFCD / TFP is a two way thing and is all about mutual benifit. If you as a photographer want to use them in other ways you should be paying a model and getting model release so that you solely hold the copyright.

no,no,no,no,no!!!!!
The old chestnut of copyright and model release surfaces again!!
A model release is a form that formalises the details of a shoot between the model and photographer. In the UK it is not strictly needed as the copyright laws automatically assign all rights to the photographer so a model release will generally restrict photographers usage rights.
Much misinterpretation is out there over model release forms as photographers are within their legal rights to use images from a shoot ,paid ,TF* or whatever with or without a release form.

Hi, (just from a models point of view)
Communication is very important before the shoot. In the past I have had to wait for months for the images just to find there was only 2 decent ones.
I normally asked the photographer to drop all the unedited images on a disc or an internet share file so i can have a look and then ask if he/she would edit the ones I like.
If I can come away with 5 fantastic images then I a happy.
As for using the images i always discuss that before and where there is a model release then I use it. It is always nice to be linked back to the person you worked with so I refefernce all photographers worked with on my website.
Hope this helps

My Rules of Engagement is I hire a model to do a shoot with, and I offer her ALL the images on disk so for one, the model can pick what she likes and I offer her a free manipulation of the images and 2 so she can see where they can improve themselves. I always Credit the model even if they are not a member of the forum. I also offer 2x A4 print of her choice or 1 A4 print.
All I ask for is credit in return.
I don't think I could be any fairer than that but as I improve I will adjust the printing and cd process.
Bear in mind this is based on TF only if I paid someone I will still at the moment give them the disk for them to analyze for there future shoots. As it not just me thats learning we are all learning everytime we work. So how can a model see themselves if they can't see the images?
Just my 2p's worth.

You can offer whatever you like - as long as you make it clear before arranging a shoot you cannot go too far wrong. Model releases usually exist to assign some rights to the model, in the UK they are generally of little benefit to the photographer but some people seem to love them and if you like paperwork then go for it.
It's fine to give 1 image 6 months after the shoot - if you shout it from the rooftops that that is what you do. Personally if David Bailey wanted to do a TF* shot with me I'd think that was a very fair deal and would join the queue like a shot. Others burn a hi-res DVD of all the images on a laptop at the shoot and hand it over.
I give a minimum of 6 images within about 6 weeks, (often more pics a lot faster if they are just what I wanted) and make it clear before hand that I choose the pics and dont give out unedited shots or a disc of everything.
Do whatever works for you
Good luck
